Proshowicz, Yitzhak

Yitzchak, son of Pinchas-Naftali and Chana Proshowicz, was born in 1927 in Zamosc, Poland. When Yitzhak was six years old, his parents immigrated to Argentina and settled in Buenos Aires. He was educated in a Zionist spirit and belonged to the Betar movement. In 1949 he underwent pre-aliyah training and in 1950 immigrated to Israel in recognition of his duty to serve his country and his people. On November 19, 1952, he went on a boat with six of his friends on a special assignment. The boat sailed on 5 Kislev, 23.11.1952. The seven seafarers did not return and the IDF declared them missing. A monument in memory of Yitzhak was established in the missing-persons section of the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
