Prodowski, Aryeh (Aryeh’le, Arion)

Aryeh, son of Sarah and Eliezer Prodowski, was born on 16.6.1927 in Jerusalem to an old family in Israel. He began studying at the Tachkemoni elementary school in Jerusalem and when the family moved to Haifa in 1935 he was accepted to the Reali School. He had a good temper in his manner. He especially liked Hebrew and music. Immediately after graduating from high school he enlisted, despite his youth, into the Jewish Brigade and served abroad. After the fighting, he participated in helping the survivors in Europe. Upon his discharge from the British Army, he began studying at the Technion, in the Faculty of Technology, and at the same time was active in the Hagana and served an important role in the supply and transfer of weapons. With the worsening of the security situation, he demanded that he be transferred to combat positions and his request was fulfilled. On 12 NIsan, April 21, 1948, Aryeh headed a squad to conquer the Najada House in Wadi Rumashmiyeh in Haifa, and in this daring operation he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
