Prati, Haim (William)

Son of Leon and Bert. He was born on 27.9.1956 in Paris, where his family emigrated from Tunis. After the Six-Day War, the family decided to immigrate to Israel. And in March 1968 immigrated to Israel and was evacuated to Ashkelon. William studied for five years in Paris. And now he had to adapt to the new language and conditions in the country. He studied at Havazelet School in Ashkelon for two years. Then he made up his mind to help his father’s bicycle repair shop-to relieve his crippled father. When the father was forced to liquidate the shop, William, despite his youth, was engaged in repairing blinds independently. At the age of 16, he began working as an electrician at Cadco Ltd. in Ashkelon, a factory for assembling electric panels, and at the same time he worked at the ORT vocational school in Hebrew and Hebrew, and almost all his income was devoted to supporting his family. During the few leisure hours the soccer game was played: In mid-May 1975, William was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the engineering corps. He spent most of his time in a combat engineering unit in Sinai. In the end he accepted the request and was sent to the cooks course to allow him to work as a cook and spend an alternate week at the military base and a week at his home. The date of release from the IDF is approaching. William was sent to the School of Military Education in Haifa to complete the acquisition of the knowledge he had been deprived of during his difficult youth. The certificate of discharge from the army was already ready, with the grade: “A good soldier, fulfilled his duties properly and quickly integrated into the profession and the department.” He also joined the School of Education well and was very fond of his friends, who called him, for his cheerfulness, ‘class clown’. But bitter fate pursued William, and on the 18th of Nisan 5738 (25.4.1978) fell during his service. Was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Ashkelon, his hometown.
