Ben Matia and Maoz. He was born on May 14, 1971 in Ramat Hasharon. Nir grew up and was educated in the shadow of his father’s glorious legacy, from which he was orphaned at the age of two and a half. Maoz Poraz, an air force pilot, participated in many heroic campaigns, fought al-Al hijackers in July 1968 and was a prisoner in Algeria. Maoz fell in the Yom Kippur War when the Skyhawk plane that flew was hit directly by an Egyptian missile over the Suez Canal. From his childhood, Nir realized that the values that he had nurtured were well absorbed in his soul, and that he chose to continue his father’s path – through giving and volunteering, facing challenges and dedication. Nir studied at the Golan elementary school in his neighborhood and went on to the “Alumim” junior high school. He graduated with high grades at the Rothberg High School, specializing in electronics and computers. Nir was actively involved in social and educational life, devoted his time to the school’s pedagogic library and was awarded a certificate of excellence at the graduation ceremony. The principal of the high school said: “Nir’s outstanding qualities were the leadership, everything that touched him went easily, and his inner beauty was amazing: a handsome, sociable, disgruntled, arrogant fellow with a desire to help friends.” Nir belonged to the Mahanot Haolim movement and was active in the Ramat Hasharon branch. He was a man of principles and a firm believer in the various spheres of life, and he set goals and fulfilled them one by one, while showing consistency and determination. In his spare time, he worked odd jobs, and with the money he earned, he paid for driving lessons and bought a scooter. When he was in 12th grade, Nir decided to cook his body and prepare himself for military service, and he took a preparatory course for the IDF with the guide Yuval Eilam and acquired knowledge, fitness and skill. The two had a close and close relationship, despite the age gap. Yuval and Nir provided each other with a spirit of giving and doing. The recruitment time approached, and Nir, who wanted to continue where his father had left, underwent a pilot test and was accepted. As an IDF orphanage, he needed his mother’s signature, but she refused and after much effort reached a compromise with her: he could volunteer for any other unit he wanted to serve except for the air crew Nir decided to try to be accepted into one of the elite field units in the IDF. In the beginning of August 1989, he enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the IDF. And served as a combat scout. Later, he went to an officer’s course and at the end was appointed commander of the team. After three years of compulsory service, he served two more years in the career army and reached the rank of captain. Nir took part in bold actions, the details of which were forbidden for publication, and marched his team toward many successes. He once described his service in Sayeret as one of his letters: “Our ability to perform tasks that appear to be impossible.” This ability fulfilled itself as a fighter and was given to its soldiers. The commander of the unit told his family: “In the unit, we are constantly required to distinguish between the limits of our ability and what is simply impossible: Officers and fighters like Nir allow us, courageously and coldly, to act within the boundaries of limitations, in undefined and threatening but necessary areas To Israel’s security. ” Nir was a rare combination of a tough commander, who demands a flawless level of professionalism and impeccable professionalism for his soldiers, who demonstrates this level himself, but does not give up relations and friendship. Thanks to this special relationship, he was called “Abba Nir” and managed to carry his soldiers to every task and challenge. The staff under his command said: “As a recurring refrain, we will try our best and follow you, when we draw your determination and daring,And at the same time also the restraint and the coolness of the spirit. “Nir has an excellent ability to express himself:” I feel an inexplicable need to convey what I am going through these moments to the face of the page. In spite of the understandable complacency, of course, that prevails among my teammates, and the foundation in general, there are some fears, albeit well-planted, that rise and rise in me (moments before the closure of light and sleep …), but, as I said, At least unconsciously, to the fears that exist in the subconscious, what to do ?! “After five years of service Nir stood before his discharge from the IDF. While on leave, he was called back to the unit and headed the team that was given the task of rescuing Nachshon Wachsman, the soldier who five days earlier had been kidnapped by terrorists. The entire country held its breath when the media exposed Nachshon’s picture, captured by his kidnappers. After intensive searches and large-scale intelligence work by all the security forces, the house in which Nachshon was being held was found on the edge of the village of Bir Nabala, north of Jerusalem, not far from his neighborhood. The terrorists attempted to extort blackmail by placing an ultimatum. Despite the tremendous difficulty in breaking into the house, where three armed terrorists are being fortified, the Israeli government decided not to surrender to the terrorists and to try to free Nachshon. This was also the approach believed by Maoz Poraz, Nir’s father, who witnessed the attempted extortion of terrorists who hijacked an El Al plane in which he served as a pilot. For this, Nir was educated and educated, once he wore the patrol uniform. On 14 October 1994, Nir was killed in a battle with Hamas terrorists: “On Friday, October 14, 1994, the unit broke into the house where Nachshon Wachsman was being held, in order to release him. Nir was at the time of the break-in at the head of the force, and the other soldiers from his team immediately followed him. Nir quickly reached the door of the room where he was being held, and tried to break in and save Nachshon’s life. During this attempt he was shot and killed, and ten of his soldiers were wounded. In the course of this operation, he displayed extraordinary courage and determination. Nir was a personal example of leadership and security for soldiers in force, in extremely dangerous and demanding circumstances. “Nir was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and was buried next to his father, who left his mother and two sisters Tamar and Amit. After his death, he received a commendation from Chief of Staff Ehud Barak. The explanation for the medal was written: “Captain Nir Poraz z” l led the penetrating force … while showing daring, determination, adhering to the extraordinary mission and courage that he paid with his life. The chief of staff also wrote to the family: “Nir served as commander of a team of fighters in an elite unit of the Israel Defense Forces. He was an officer with exceptional courage and determination, with natural leadership, discretion, intelligence and restraint, who at the time led his soldiers to operational activities that contributed greatly to Israel’s security and to the last action he took, : “From the beginning of his military service, Nir demonstrated unusual devotion and determination, even with the unit’s high standards. Nir was a model soldier and an outstanding officer. From the time he was a soldier on the team, through serving as a team leader to dangerous and complex operational activities, Nir stood out as daring, determined and at the same time very thoughtful and mature. Nir excelled in initiative, dynamism, and a constant tendency to achieve the best achievements in the military activity in which he worked. At the same time, Nir was a sensitive and attentive commander to his soldiers. Throughout his command, despite the pressures of his activity, Nir did not neglect the soldierOr the soldier in distress … His death is an open wound in a unit that will not soon heal. “The press extensively covered the battle that had taken place and brought the figure to Nir, the Jewish school in Lima, Peru, commemorating his memory as part of the final project of the graduating class. Was immortalized in the books published by the Ministry of Defense: “In their boldness” – “Etzioni Gevura Oz and Mofet” and in the book “The Heroism” by Michael Bar-Zohar, where his biography and death were written by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel in the Dutalon, which was held in memory of him every year, and after his fall, Nir’s family received letters from friends, soldiers and commanders who admired him One of them wrote on behalf of the Nir team soldiers: “We look at each other terrified, licking our wounds and refusing to accept. But above all it is difficult to understand how we became orphans that night … Sometimes it seemed that you were a kind of big brother, who gave feedback to all our actions and cared to please if necessary, but the strongest feeling we had in our hearts was as if we were your children … Father Nir, And a task that came up, volunteered to participate. A friend’s father wrote on paper in the book “People at the Front”: “Nir was always smiling, always barefoot – on the way to the beach, playing volleyball Or a jaunty and dusty Jeep ride. There are just goals. There are no goals that justify such loss and waste. Our sorrow is about the possible and the impossible-to-be, and it is a sense of unease about the selfishness of grief. This is the sorrow of the survivors, who were deprived of the pleasure of watching Nir – later in his career, in the continuation of his success and enjoyment. “In Nir’s estate, Nir wrote:” I owe myself to myself, and I have no choice but to give up the light that is missing from us. “Nir’s writings revealed many writings, philosophical reflections and thoughts attesting to intelligence, Mental integrity, the very one that really came up the steps of defense I set for myself … slowly, at a stage when you might find yourself devoid of purpose. Lost in the heart of a large, suddenly exposed forest. Then I will need the concentration of the tools and the abilities to give myself, myself navigating my way through the endless jungle of life, the answers I have prepared in advance are the ones that will help me to stabilize again … Sometimes you are required to face an unknown reality, Which can not be predicted, and, of course, as a consequence – may not even dare to reach speculations that contain those very mysterious ones, but one common denominator always exists along the same fleeting episodes of life – the choice, or in more divided form – the freedom of choice … In these words the wise men will know me to explain, but with life – with their simplicity and complexity – I must be innocent D. “
