Pomes, Yair
Yair, son of Shoshana and Ze’ev (Wolf), was born on April 28, 1943 in Ramat Gan. 1961 he assigned to the Artillery Corps. After completing basic training, he was sent to a mortar-shell training course and was assigned to a field unit and was awarded the rank of sergeant.In his unit, he was known as a dedicated soldier and an excellent member, and was considered a good lieutenant and a capable team commander. He was always Simcha to fulfill his duty, and was Simcha to return to his unit and to meet with his subordinates. With his comrades in arms, and in June 1967 he was drafted and participated in the war and was awarded the “Six Day War.” He worked as a production manager and technical manager at his father’s factory, and with his help the factory satisfied his customers, but Yair devoted much of his time and private life to this task. On October 14, 1973, his unit participated in providing artillery cover and softening enemy positions on the Talisman axis, and during the battle of the Suez Canal, the crew under his command bombarded the enemy with exhaustion. Suddenly the mortar exploded and Yair was killed. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. Survived by his parents, brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
