Pollak, Aryeh (Anti)


Aryeh, son of Leah and David, was born in Vienna, Austria, on the 10th of Kisleiv; December 12, 1929. He began school, but at the age of nine, when the Nazis took control of the country,he was shuttled from camp to camp over the course of five years. Aryeh managed to reach Eretz Yisrael in January 1948 and immediately enlisted in the army and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. He had been offered to join the military police, but he insisted that he join a combat unit. He took part in many battles in various Arab villages and on the 28th of Nissan; May 8, 1948, he fell during one such battle. Aryeh was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
