Polka, Chaim-Shlomo


Born in the city of Vishnitz, Poland in 1928. When World War II broke out, he was a primary school student and fled to Russia where he continued his studies and returned to Poland at the end of the war, In June 1948, after the establishment of the State of Israel, Chaim-Shlomo immigrated to Israel and immediately joined the Israel Defense Forces and was attached to the Artillery Corps. Chaim-Shlomo remembered what he had gone through and fought for the freedom of his people. In Operation Horev to remove the Egyptian army from Israel, our forces seized outposts north of Khan Yunis. The Egyptians reacted with a fierce counter-attack with the help of artillery and armor, and on21 Kislav, December 23, 1948 six months after being in the country,he was killed. Chaim-Shlomo was laid to rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
