Polikman, Yeshayahu


Son of Penina and Shaul, was born on the 27th of Tamuz, August 4, 1929, in the city of Santiago, Chile, to Israeli parents, and in 1934 immigrated with his parents to Israel. He completed his studies in an elementary school in Tel Aviv and began to work. Yeshayahu joined the Hanoar Haoved movement and went to a training program in Kfar Giladi. At the beginning of December 1947, with the outbreak of the War of Independence following the United Nations General Assembly resolution of November 29, 1947 that divided the country into two states, he took part in the defense of the Tel Aviv school neighborhoods. Yeshayahu participated in the defense of Yad Mordechai, the occupation of Barir, and often acted as a saboteur behind enemy lines. He excelled in the willingness to come to the aid of others, to make do with little and to carry out hardships without complaint. Yeshayahu fell from a stray bullet and was brought to eternal rest on the 16th of Iyar 5708 (25.5.1948).
