Pohatchevsky, Nir


Nir, Ben Ziona and Yiftach, was born on 27.6.1953 in Ramat Gan. Nir was drafted into the IDF in early May 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, where he was placed in an armored infantry unit and successfully completed a course for squad commanders in the armored infantry unit. He was later sent to serve in an armored unit in the northern sector of Sinai. In his unit, he was a devoted and disciplined soldier who carried out all the tasks assigned to him with great precision and perfection, and was greatly appreciated by his commanders. In the Yom Kippur War, his unit set out for the Suez Canal in order to take part in stopping the Egyptian armored assaults and rescuing the IDF soldiers besieged in the strongholds, and Nir’s force went to the stronghold of Budapest, which was blocked by an Egyptian commando unit. and he was killed on the 19th of Tishrei 5734 (October 15, 1973)
