Pochangel, Peretz


Son of Dvora-Chaya and Moshe-Zvi, was born on March 12, 1915, in Lubicz, Poland. In his city, he graduated from elementary school and worked as a tailor. In 1939, when the Nazis invaded, he was deported to Russia and remained there for seven years, earning a living from various jobs. In 1946 he returned to Poland, but left immediately. He moved to Germany, prepared for immigration, and boarded the ship Theodor Herzl. The ship’s passengers were interned in a camp in Cyprus and Peretz arrived in Palestine during the War of Independence. Here he met with his sister – two remnants of an extensive family that had been destroyed by the Nazis. While in Cyprus he underwent training on behalf of the Haganah and immediately upon his arrival he enlisted and served in the Jerusalem Brigade. Peretz fell on the 15th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 15, 1948) in Abu-Gosh. He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 17th of Elul 5710 (August 30, 1950) he was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
