Plesser, Oded


Oded, son of Fanny and Oscar, was born on July 17, 1939 in Jerusalem, where he began his elementary studies at the Eshkol School and continued at the Hebrew Gymnasium Rehavia, where he completed his high school studies at Beit Chinuch in Jerusalem, In 1957. Oded loved Israel’s landscapes and toured its paths, and was especially interested in the archeology of the Land of Israel, and from his childhood devoted himself to his hobby – collecting stamps, symbols and coins. With his fellow members of the “Scouts” group, joined the Nahal Brigade. During his military service, he underwent an advanced training course, a parachuting course and a knighthood course. He also served as the emissary of the movement at the Hebrew Reali School in Haifa. After completing his military service, he joined the Kibbutz Magal in Emek Hefer. In 1961 he began studying at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. After a year he continued his studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In the days of alert before the Six-Day War he left his studies and returned to Israel to report to his unit. In early 1968 he graduated with honors in veterinary medicine. Now he returned to Israel and began looking for his professional path. He worked for a short time at the Veterinary Office in Rehovot and later in a private company for importing and distributing drugs. In 1970 he began working as a regional poultry doctor in Jerusalem, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture. In this work he saw a mission and devoted himself to it with all his might. He guided the inexperienced poultry farmers and tried to make them real farmers, who would see a blessing in their labor. In order to achieve this aspiration, he spared no effort to explain, demonstrate and persuade. His great patience and dedication to the matter even outside the official working hours, his fair treatment and his great kindness were all over the region. The poultry farmers were grateful to him and many had friends. His refined sense of humor also helped him make friends with others. He was always urged to learn and know more; Along with his practical work in the field, he completed his studies in medicine at Tel Aviv University. On the day of Yom Kippur, October 6, 1973, he was in the stronghold of Milan, opposite the city of Qantara on the banks of the Suez Canal, during the first hours of the war, when he was standing at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. (1971) and Dana (1972.) Oded dreamed of setting up a large laboratory for agricultural service in the region, which would be of a high scientific level, and that the study of avian diseases would be promoted. And is now named after him, at the initiative of his fellow doctors, the region’s farms, pharmaceutical companies and the family, a fund was established that bears his name, and its fruits are distributed Awards for research in the field of avian medicine.
