Plaskowski, Reuven

Son of Zahava and Meir. He was born on the 9th of Av (7.8.1927) in Moshav Karkur and studied at the elementary school in the colony and then at the vocational high school of the Technion in Haifa in 1946. He excelled in manual labor, especially in various fine arts and crafts. His high grades, hard work, and perseverance enabled him to cope with them and to succeed, and to be loved by his friends for his unique qualities: humility, generosity and devotion to every task he was assigned to. During the evenings and on Saturdays, and after completing his studies he set out to fulfill his duty as part of the the Palmach. He joined Ashdot Yaakov’s training and immediately became outstanding in organizational skills and was elected as a member of the secretariat. He was also assigned a job in charge of the weapons cache (“Slik”). He excelled in topographical knowledge and in the ability to navigate the terrain, and led the training classes on every road, trail and trail. His comrades in the Palmach tell how he exploited this knowledge and skill in tours around Nazareth, Mount Masada and other places, and how he was quick to bring water, make bonfires, and cook in field conditions. On 3 Tishrei, September 17, 1947, he was killed with his father in a car accident. He was laid to rest in Karkur. HaKibbutz Hameuchad published a pamphlet in his memory in which members spoke about his character.
