Piotrkowsky, Avraham (Romek)

Son of Rivka and Yehiel Zvi, was born on December 8, 1919 in Lodz, Poland. He had a high school education. On May 9, 1939, he arrived in Israel as a tourist and remained here under a pseudonym, Harari. He worked in various jobs: as an agricultural laborer in Pardes, weaving and more. After two months in Israel he joined the ranks of the Haganah. With the outbreak of World War II he was one of the first to join the war against the Nazis. For six years he served with distinction as a driver in the Palestine infantry units and joined the Jewish Brigade on the Italian front. At the end of the war, he devoted himself to rescuing brothers from the survivors in Europe. Worked tirelessly, and often in mortal danger. Without a permit and without any means, he reached Poland and saved relatives. When he returned to Israel, he continued to work as a driver, but immediately returned to his position in the Hagana. He worked as a taxi driver and was a favorite of his acquaintances and friends. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he was already serving in the “Kiryati” Brigade. He participated in convoys of fat white and Jerusalem. His last trip to Jerusalem on March 31, 1948, was voluntary, instead of a friend who did not leave, and some Arab armored vehicles sank into the mud and were attacked by Arab forces, all 12 armored personnelmen were wounded and Avraham refused to leave, Even though he had the possibility of being saved, he remained to treat the wounded, and again he tried to start the armored vehicle and save the men, but in vain, Abraham was brutally murdered by the Arabs until it was difficult to identify him. – The Cemetery in Hulda.
