Pinkas, Zisha (Zionio)
Son of Miriam and Bezalel, was born in 1916 in Stanislawow, Poland. In 1925, at age 9, he immigrated to Israel with the family, who settled in Haifa. Where he attended elementary school and later at the Bialik Gymnasium. After completing his studies he entered the labor market and helped his father in the carpentry shop. From 1935 he was a member of the Haganah, a member of the Ha-Po’el Company and a guide for nature lovers. Zisha knew the ways of the country well. He was also among the first volunteers to the Firefighting Association. Upon the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was drafted, took a commanding course, and took part in many battles in the Carmeli Brigade, where he fell in the Sejera battle on Tuesday, June 10, 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula. He left behind a wife, Zizi.
