Pinkas, Alfred (“Freddy”)


Alfred, son of Alexander and Astria Pinkas, was born on January 22, 1944 in the city of Vizin, Bulgaria. His mother died at his birth and Alfred grew up without a mother. He studied in an elementary school in Bulgaria and in 1958 he immigrated to Israel in “Aliyat Hanoar” and then graduated from son of Shemen. After that, he stayed at Kibbutz Ein Gev until his enlistment in the IDF in November 1961. During his service, he underwent a course for tank commanders, he worked as a laborer in the Assis factory, and occasionally went on reserve duty and even before the Six-Day War was called to serve. He fought as a tank crew member and showed courage and exemplary sacrifice until he fell in a battle that took place in the Golan Heights on the fifth day of the battles. It was on the 9th of Sivan 5767 (June 9, 1967). He put down a wife. He was buried in the military cemetery in Afula and was later transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
