Pincus, Simcha (Simchale)

Simcha, son of Malka and Eliezer Pincus was born on 18.4.1931 in Jerusalem. He completed elementary school, was a member of a youth movement, and went to the agricultural training center near the Kinneret where he served as a Palmach recruit. During the War of Independence, as a member of the Harel Brigade, Simcha participated in many activities on various fronts. In the second stage of the “Dani” operation, prior to the second truce, a “Mickey” operation took place, one of which was the conquest of the Latrun area. This was the fourth attack on this area and the task was assigned to the Harel Brigade. The force embarked on its mission on the night of July 15-16, 1948, and conquered most of the ridge while overcoming the fierce resistance of the Legion soldiers. The enemy carried out a counter-attack and even activated its armor reserves. The appearance of the armored vehicles surprised the Harel fighters, who did not have anti-tank weapons and under enemy pressure had to retreat. In this battle Simcha fell on the 10th of Tammuz 5708 (17.7.1948). On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
