Pinchas, Reuven
Son of Sarah and Ben-Zion (from the fourth generation of Rabbi Judah Halevi, the representative of the Jews of Jaffa), was born on April 15, 1927 in Bat Yam. He received his education at the “Kol Israel Haverim” school. As a youth, he joined the ranks of Hanoar Haoved, and was very active there. In 1940, he joined Gadna, and when he matured, he was transferred to the IDF. He was devoted to security matters and accepted by his commanders and friends. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, Reuven immediately joined the defense of his home town, Bat Yam. On the 10th of Tevet, December 23, 1947, traveling from Bat Yam to Tel Aviv, armed with a hunting rifle only, he was shot by an Arab sniper from Jabalya and mortaly wounded. He was buried in the civil cemetery in Nahalat Yitzhak. On the 25th of Elul 5714 (23.9.1954) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery in the area.
