Pinchas, Nuri
Son of Leah and Moshe, was born in 1934 in Iraq. The family immigrated to Israel in 1948 and settled in Moshav Ta’anach near Afula. Prior to his enlistment, Nuri worked as a caretaker on behalf of the Jewish National Fund. Nuri was drafted into the IDF in mid-May 1952. After basic training, he was stationed in the infantry unit, from where he was transferred to an anti-aircraft artillery unit and finally served in a Nahal unit. Nuri was a cook, fulfilling his duties to the satisfaction of his superiors. When his time came to be released, his behavior on the certificate of release was described as very good, and his commanders’ assessment was: “His approach to good people performed his job efficiently, stable and serious, quiet and dedicated.” In mid-November 1954, Nuri was released from regular service, married and settled in Moshav Ferson. In addition to working the land, he purchased vehicles and worked as a driver. Over the years, the couple had five sons and three daughters. As a reservist, Nuri participated in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War, and was given the signals of the campaign. He was transferred to the Territorial Defense and served as a distributor of recruitment orders. In the reserve service he was even given the rank of corporal. On February 2, 1983, Corporal Nuri fell during his service and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Afula. He left behind a wife, five sons and three daughters, three sisters and two brothers. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander stated that Nuri had served in his unit for more than twelve years, and for this long period he fulfilled his duties faithfully and with boundless devotion.
