Pilpel, Yaakov (Yankele)


Yaakov, son of Miriam and Moshe Pilpel, was born in 1924 in Safed. He served in the army as a driver and at the beginning of the War of Independence he joined the ranks of the Carmeli Brigade and participated in the battles in Daliyat al-Carmel, Wadi Rushmia, and in many other battles. He completed a course for commanders in Beit Oren and fought in the defense of Ramat Yochanan. Yaakov was hit by an enemy bullet in the forehead and fell on 7 Nissan, April 16, 1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
