Pieglerchik, Mordechai

Mordechai, son of Ester and Yitzhak, was born on June 20, 1954, in Bnei Brak. He was a quick and alert child who captivated people. Mordechai began studying at the “Yavetz” elementary school. As he grew older, he decided to study a profession in order to stand on his own. He was accepted to the ORT vocational school and studied for two years in a framework of engravings. During his studies, he participated in all the Gadna activities that were conducted by the school, and he was a diligent student and his lack of academic studies was a great complement to his practical work, and his teachers admired him for his knowledge and his ability to work. He joined the IDF in mid-May 1972 and was assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training he was sent to a tank course, where he finished with a very good grade (86) and was certified as a tank driver. Mordechai spent the entire period of his military service on the Sinai front. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was one of the first to halt the invasion of the Egyptian army. In the heat of the battle Mordechai moved from tank to tank, unit to unit, and fought tirelessly. On October 18, 1973, when our forces began preparing to cross the Suez Canal and break into Egypt, a fierce battle broke out in the central sector near the Chinese Farm. Mordechai fell in this battle. At first he was declared missing and only six months later it became clear that he had fallen in combat. After his body was found he was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and two brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
