At the recommendation of his commanders, he was sent to an officer’s course, from which he dropped out about a week before the end of the course due to disciplinary problems. After a short period of time, he decided to pass the course again and in October 1986 he successfully completed it. Yaakov returned to the battalion as a battery commander and signed a year of regular service. In late 1987, with the permission of the army, he went to Brussels to visit his fellow student, who had studied there. Upon his return to Israel, he served as a battery commander and was later appointed battalion commander. Throughout his military service, he was admired by his subordinates and commanders. On April 16, 1988, he went on a field tour, during which the jeep he drove drove over. Yaakov was seriously injured and rushed to Rambam Hospital three days later, on the 3rd of Iyar 5748 (19.4.1988), who died of his wounds. Yaakov was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery. Survived by his parents and brother – Avraham.
