Philosof, Aaron

Aaron, son of Livneh and Moshe Philosoff, was born on the 13th of Av, August 7, 1930 in Kfar Baruch. His parents immigrated to Israel in 1924. After completing his studies, he helped his parents on their farm. When Aaron was 14, he joined Hanoar Haoved and studied evening classes. In 1947, he joined the Haganah and was active in it. One evening the British pursued him to his house and even shot him. When the War of Independence broke out Aaron served in the Negev Brigade, accompanied convoys to the Negev, and finally served in Nir Am. On the 17th of Adar 2, 5708 (March 28, 1948) he set out for the Negev. Near the village of Brayer, the armored vehicle was attacked with heavy fire from the sides of the road. An order was given to dig in and the defenders jumped out of the car. Aharon threw a grenade and crawled toward the enemy positions. The diversion did not work and when he encountered an Arab, he had to fight him in hand-to-hand combat, until the Arab managed to stab him three times with a knife. He was taken to the hospital in Nir Am and died two hours later. Aaron was buried in Nir Am. On the 25th of Kislev 5712 (December 4, 1950), he was laid to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
