Petel, Avigdor


Born in 1928 in the city of Aleppo in Syria, the family immigrated to Israel in 1935 when Avigdor was seven years old and settled in Jerusalem, where his father, rabbi and talmid hakham, served as a teacher and principal of the ” The son, who remained loyal to his religious education, completed elementary school, studied seamstresses, first worked for other shoemakers, and finally opened his own shoemaking workshop in the Mazkeret Moshe neighborhood. He was accepted as part of the Irgun underground in Givat Shaul. At first he was a guard in positions. Part-time participation in Dir-Yassin activity. In the month of Tamuz 5708, Avigdor enlisted in the IDF, trained further and was attached to an artillery unit. He participated in several battles, got out of them safely and continued his service even after the fighting ended. Avigdor was killed in a road accident on February 4, 1949. He was buried in Sheikh Bader B. On June 21, 1951, he was transferred to the military cemetery at Mount Herzl In Jerusalem.
