Peretz, Yaakov
Son of Machluf and Rachel. He was born on the 5th of Kislev 5708 (18.11.1947) in the city of Marrakesh, Morocco, when he immigrated to Israel at the age of 8. He first studied in an elementary school in Nahalal and when he completed his elementary studies at the Ma’alot school in Be’er Sheva, In 1966 he was drafted into the IDF and during his compulsory service he proved himself to be an outstanding soldier, quiet and obedient. He performed his duties properly and was admired by all his friends. But he did not have time to finish his compulsory service because on the 21st of Adar, 21 March 1968 he set out for the retaliatory action against the Jordanian sabotage bases. This operation is known as Operation Karameh (a town east of the Jordan, To Israeli territory) and in this operation the enemy shell hit him and thus he died. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. His direct commander described him as a courageous but modest and modest soldier who did not look up to glory and fulfilled his duty and thanks to him and the hard standing of his comrades during the shelling saved the lives of many who were exposed to fire.
