Ben Mazal and Avraham Born in Kiryat Shmona on October 22, 1958, February 1977 Meir enlisted in the IDF and served in the infantry. He participated in Operation Litani in Lebanon in 1978, excelled in combat and was sent to a course for drivers since his commanders knew of his ambition to serve as a driver. After completing the course, Meir rose to the rank of corporal On May 26, 1979, Meir drove a military tanker in a convoy that returned from the Golan Heights to the base of his unit in the Upper Galilee. On the way, the tanker veered off to the left, overturned, and two soldiers were crushed. One soldier was killed on the spot, and Meir was mortally wounded and died in the hospital. He was 21 years old when he died. The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “During his service in the unit Meir demonstrated excellent combat fitness and even took part in the Litani operation, as a reward for his excellence. Meir was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shmona. He left behind his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
