Peres, Eyal


Son of Dalia and Mordechai, was born on March 27, 1960 in Jerusalem. As a child, his family spent several years in the United States, where Eyal began his elementary school. When they returned to Israel, the family settled in the doctors’ residence at Tel Hashomer. Eyal continued his studies at Hillel Elementary School, moved to Blich High School and completed high school. In July 1978, Eyal enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces and served in the IAF, successfully completing the first stages of a pilot’s course, and in July 1980 he completed his pilot studies and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. The opinion of his commanders at the time was: “Eyal is a serious guy, invested a lot, positive in every way.” In January 1980, Eyal began serving in the career army as a Bell helicopter pilot. In July 1981, he was promoted to lieutenant. In his service he was assigned many operational tasks, while at the same time he continued to train. In December 1981 Eyal underwent a parachuting course. On the 17th of Shvat 5742 (17.2.1982) Eyal was in training, in a ground-air cooperation exercise in the Yeruham area. During the training he fell from his helicopter and crashed. Two pilots died in an accident, and one of them was a ram. He was 22 years old. He was laid to rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Eyal left behind his parents and two brothers. The commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Your son was killed in a training accident, and he was recently certified as the captain of the Bell helicopter, and as such was expected to continue advancing in the IAF. , Ability and talent, he carried out many different tasks, such as rescuing travelers, evacuating casualties, exercises with the ground forces, transport commanders and important people – all of which he performed in the best possible way. “
