Penigstein, Nahum


Son of Avraham and Sarah. He was born on March 8, 1956, in Jerusalem. He studied at the Horev religious elementary school and at the Nativ Meir high school in Jerusalem. Afterward he studied at Yeshivat Har Etzion in Alon Shvut. Even as a child, he discovered talent and a tendency toward the real track, and was very interested in solving mathematical and physical problems. Throughout his career Nahum was prominent in the intellectual field with talent and sharpness of mind, especially in the real and Talmudic fields, and in the social sphere he stood out in his devotion and responsibility to society. He was a member of the Ezra religious youth movement and also served as a counselor in the movement for almost three years during his high school studies. Nachum worked extensively on the social level, and gave a personal example to his peers in his group and movement, and was therefore loved and admired by his youth in the movement. At the end of July 1974 Nachum was drafted into the IDF as part of the hesder yeshiva he studied in. His concern and devotion to his friends and students came to be discovered during his service in the army, helping friends and exerting his duty, In Ramat-Magshimim shortly after his arrival, a Gemara class was organized in the local Beit Midrash, and he joined him, and then he and his friends were attacked by a group of terrorists, and Nachum was also killed at the age of 19. This was on the 17th of Kislev “(November 20, 1975), who was brought to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and left behind his parents, brother and three sisters. By publishing a memorial booklet in memory of his name, “Nahum”, with the words of friends, teachers and family members. At the memorial service at the Har Etzion Yeshiva – was said: “A prominent and outstanding figure, stood out for his talents and devotion to the Torah, his virtues, his dedication and his responsibility to society … Everything he heard from his rabbis served as a means of achieving self-understanding in his personal way … From the time of the prayer of Vetikin until the wee hours of the night, he also used his intellectual powers to rise and ascend the Torah, in fear of Heaven and in faith. ” It was also said that “leadership was inherent in nature, and this ability was revealed in the youth movement, in the army, and in the yeshiva … The first was to demand self-sufficiency and take care of others. ..
