Pearl, Gershon
Son of Orna and Georg. He was born on October 3, 1915, in Berlin. When he was 18, he joined the youth movement of the Zionist Organization in his city and stood out in his devotion to the movement. In July 1936, after undergoing pioneering training, he immigrated to Eretz Israel and joined the “Ein Hagalil” kibbutz in the Yavne’el Valley. He was one of the road-keepers of Sarid-Nahalal and Abed and Shimmer in the Haifa’s Karantina building. About a year later, he moved with his company to Kibbutz “Ha-Miflas” in Kfar Saba, where he married a wife. Afterward, he was one of the founders of the stonemason group at the Ibn Tibin quarry near Atarot, north of Jerusalem, and excelled in his diligence in his work and devotion to his friends. In the summer of 1938 he began working as an escort in the Jerusalem-Atarot line, joined the Haganah organization and was aware of every creative endeavor. Gershon studied Hebrew diligently and bluntly in his loyalty and integrity. On 14 Tishrei, September 29, 1938, an Arab gang opened fire on a bus on which it was traveling along the road from Atarot to Jerusalem. He was seriously injured but continued to carry out his duties until he took the bus from the danger zone. He was evacuated to a hospital and died of his wounds. Gershom was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Atarot. He left a wife and parents.
