Pavoncello, Ben-Zion (Sergio)
Son of Ammah and Leon, was born in 1927 in Rome, the capital of Italy. Where he studied in an elementary school and afterward he dealt in commerce. When he arrived in Italy, he heard about the harassment of Arabs in the Jewish Yishuv following the United Nations General Assembly resolution on the partition of the country. He volunteered for Gahal and enlisted in a military plane in 1948. He received his military training at a training camp for Gahal In Italy during the War of Independence, served in the Jerusalem Brigade, was sent with his unit to escort convoys and guarded the “Burma Road” to besieged Jerusalem, and on October 17, 1948 he was hit by an enemy bullet. A. On the 17th of Elul 5710 (August 30, 1950) he was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
