Pauker, Aryeh

Pauker, Aryeh

Son of Rivka and Ze’ev, was born on December 11, 1922 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. As a child, his father and mother died on him and he was educated in an orphanage. With the Holocaust that descended on the Jews of Vienna, he joined Hashomer Hatzair and was loyal to it for the rest of his life. Aryeh immigrated to Israel in July 1939 and began a new and vibrant parashat Hayyim in the youth movement that received its training at Kibbutz Beit Zera. He called the place and his men and worked hard on the work and the studies. At the end of his training period at Beit Zera, he spent some time with his fellow members of Kibbutz Nir Amal. From there he moved to Kibbutz Mishmar Zevulun, whose home was his farm. Aryeh was a farmer in all his limbs, but mostly loved his work in the cowshed, calling the children of the farm and sending them greetings in his letters from the front, and was among the first volunteers to the Palmach. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he served in the “Yiftah” Brigade and participated in many battles: Beit She’an and Tirat Zvi, in Zandala and Zar’in, Mishmar Ha’emek and its surroundings, until he was transferred to the Galilee. His nickname was “The Gunner’s Aryeh”. In anticipation of the expected invasion, the Yiftah forces seized their kings, but under pressure from the enemy attack they were forced to retreat. In this battle, on 15 May 1948, he was buried in the cemetery in Maoz Haim, and his memory was included in the booklet “Latzi and Aryeh” published by Kibbutz Mishmar Zevulun.
