Passmanik, Avraham-Raphael
Son of Miriam and Joshua. He was born on October 1, 1920 in Radzymin, Poland. In 1925 he immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel. He attended elementary school in Magdiel. In 1939, he enlisted in the British Army to transport unit 462, in whose ranks he fought in battles in the Western Desert. On 27 Nisan, May 1, 1943, the ship “Arinfora”, which made its way to Malta, was bombed. The soldiers of Unit 462 were attacked by the Germans. The ship drowned and took with it 140 of the unit’s soldiers, Abraham among them. He left parents and two brothers. In the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, a ship-shaped monument was erected in memory of those who were missing, and next to it is a water pool with the names of the fallen engraved on the bottom. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
