Pashil, Shraga-Aryeh (Shemesh)

Shraga-Aryeh son of Frieda and Chaim-Yosef Pashil (Shemesh), was born on November 3, 1922, in the town of Zelichow, Poland. On January 28, 1934, he immigrated to Israel with his parents. He studied at the Bilu School in Tel Aviv and completed his studies in 1939. Shraga-Aryeh was an agile boy and sports fan, a member of the religious sports association Elitzur and a quiet and moderate student. In 1945, Shraga-Aryeh left for a year of service in the National Guard and served in Tel Litvinsky (Tel Hashomer). Afterward he worked as a clerk in a factory and in the evenings he completed his studies in order to be admitted to the Technion. Immediately upon the declaration of the state, he was examined and found incapable of combat duty, yet he managed to enlist in one of the battalions in Brigade 7. Shraga-Aryeh took part in Operation Ben-Nun Bet, the second attack on the Legion in Latrun. He fell in battle in the village of Dir Ayub near Sha’ar Hagai, on the 22nd of Iyar, May 31, 1948. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
