Papysamidov, Shota


Son of Frida and Jacob, was born in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, on December 3, 1955. In December 1973, at the age of 18, he immigrated with his parents to Israel and the family settled in Kiryat Yam. In Kibbutz Ein Hashofet, after acquiring basic knowledge of the Hebrew language, he was accepted to study at the Technion School of Engineering in Haifa. He enlisted in May 1977 and served in the Signal Corps. Shota underwent a series of professional courses and was promoted to the rank of Corporal in August 1978. He worked in his profession as an electronics engineer, married and built his home in Kiryat Yam. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, he was called to service and fought with his unit until the end of the fighting. In September 1982, he was called again for service in Lebanon. On the 3 rd of Tishrei 5743 (October 3, 1982), he returned by bus from his weekend vacation home to his base in Lebanon. On the way, a terrorist squad hit the bus passengers. Shota was killed. He was 27 when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind a wife, a son, parents and three brothers. Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Corporal Shota gave his life for his homeland, he fell near the town of Ali in Lebanon, served in the Signal Corps, was a model soldier, loved by his comrades. And under difficult conditions. ” The commander of his unit wrote to his wife: “Your husband was an exemplary soldier. Throughout the entire operation, he served alongside me in operating the radio equipment with maximum efficiency”
