Paperblit, Zeev (Walter)


Zeev (Walter), son of Mina and Shmuel Hacohen Paperblit was born in 1909 in Munich, Germany. He grew up in a family that preserved tradition. Zeev completed his studies in high school, was an enthusiastic member of the He – Chaluts movement and was sent by this movement for training in Denmark. After being approved as a pioneer, he immigrated to Israel in 1935. At first he worked at Kibbutz Ein Gev in agriculture and when the bloody riots broke out, he joined the Haganah. At the beginning of the Second World War he joined the Nutras and served there for several years. His connections with the Haganah remained close even when he returned to civilian life. From the beginning of the War of Independence Zeev was one of the defenders of Holon and fell defending the city on the 18th of Adar 5708 (28.2.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife, Rivka, and two children.
