Panzer, Amos

Son of Sarah and Haim, was born on September 16, 1929 in Kiryat Haim. A member of Hashomer Hatzair. Even as a child, he took upon himself important positions in the various committees of the Kiryat Haim, Kiryat Bialik and Kiryat Motzkin committees. As he grew older, he took on the role of a guide in the movement, and his students’ great appreciation of him was evident from the love that flowed from letters to the family when they learned of his death. After graduating from elementary school in Kiryat Haim he continued to study for two years in high school and eventually moved to the vocational school of the Technion in Haifa and became known as a diligent student. From his youth he was a member of the Hagana, the Gadna, the Hish, and finally the Palmach, together with his comrades in the Sumerian battalion. “The main leadership of his movement obtained a release certificate for him and demanded that he remain in the area and guide the movement, Carmeli “and later to the Palmach, to the Negev Brigade. Amos participated in many activities in Emek Zevulun, the Galilee and the Negev. He participated in the “Philist” operation – the attack on the Egyptian column in Ashdod on the 26th of Iyar 5708 (June 4, 1948). The attack failed and the forces were forced to retreat. After his comrades retreated while he remained to collect the weapons left in the field. A bullet hit his stomach and he was taken to a Tel Aviv hospital where he died on Sunday, June 8, 1948. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa following an investigation carried out during 2017, 5708 (June 4, 1948).
