Ozeri, Shmuel (Shmulik)
Son of Shoshana and Shalom, he was born on September 11, 1954, in Jerusalem, to a family blessed with many children. After graduating from elementary school and junior high school, he was sent to study the printing industry, and even before his enlistment he managed to establish himself in this profession. In November 1972, he enlisted in the IDF and served in the Infantry Corps, where he underwent basic training, was sent to a course in the Israel Defense Forces, and was promoted to the rank of corporal in the summer of 1973. He fought in the Yom Kippur War and stood out for his professional and social skills. Shmuel married and built his home in Kiryat Yovel in Jerusalem, where he continued to serve in his reserve duty unit and was very dedicated to the positions he filled. When Operation Peace for Galilee began, Shmuel was recruited for active duty and assigned to his unit in the town of Damur, south of Beirut. On the 20th of Av 5742 (August 9, 1982), Shmuel was killed in the area where mines and cluster bombs were scattered, one of them was detonated and Shmuel was killed. He was 28 years old. He was laid to rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left his wife, a daughter, parents, five brothers and two sisters. His unit commander wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “In the framework of the unit in the area of Beirut, during the preparations for the break-in to the city, he served as an example for soldiers.” His name was memorialized in the synagogue in Kiryat Yovel in Jerusalem.
