Ozeri, Shimon
Shimon, son of Judith and Chaim, was born on November 3, 1949, and attended the Yavneh Elementary School in Ra’anana. After graduating from elementary school, he was forced to help his father and bear the burden of supporting the household. But though he worked hard, he was always Simcha with his part, cheerful and smiling. Shimon was drafted into the IDF in mid-February 1968 and volunteered for the “Haruv” reconnaissance unit, after completing basic training for infantry commanders, and he participated in the pursuit of terrorists in the Jordan Valley and the War of Attrition on the banks of the Suez Canal. And to help the wounded man during a bombardment on the basis of missiles near the canal, with great trepidation. “On Independence Day 1969 he was one of the hundred outstanding soldiers received by the late President Zalman Shazar. After being released from regular service, he was assigned to a reserve unit, and from time to time he was called for periods of reserve duty. Upon his return to civilian life, he worked for the Electric Company, and his superiors praised him for his diligence, his energy, his precision, and his faith in his work, quietly and modestly, and fulfilled everything he was entrusted with. Shimon did not pursue luxury, he loved simplicity, he was not arrogant and he hated bravado. He was sociable and respected the feelings of others. By nature, he loved man and was not careful with others, he knew how to listen to his friends’ words patiently and was always willing to help his friends, even at the expense of his time and comfort. His friends loved him and his sense of humor, and enjoyed themselves when he was joking and doing pranks and mischief. Shimon was an athlete and developed his physical fitness, swimming in the sea and traveling around the country and enjoying its landscapes and sites. At the beginning of 1973 he married his girlfriend Yael and had a devoted and loving husband, just as he was a loyal son and cared for his parents. When the Yom Kippur War broke out Shimon was drafted and sent with his unit to the front in Sinai. On the 18th of Tishrei 5734 (October 18, 1973), in the afternoon he fell in battle at the “Haifa” junction in the Abu Sultan camps on the West Bank of the Suez Canal. His commander said: “After the occupation of the fortified” uncircumcised “target, a force was sent to secure the junction next to it, and the force opened fire on the unit, clearing the bunkers and ditches from the Egyptian soldiers who were stationed there. And died on the spot. ” He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ra’anana. He left behind a wife, parents, three brothers and four sisters. His son, who was born after his death, bears his name – Shimon. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Shimon volunteered for every action, always ran forward and was willing to give everything for his friends”
