Ovadia, Yitzhak (Itzik)

Son of Aliza and Salomon, he was born on September 1, 1963, in the Nahalat-Ada neighborhood of Herzliya. Yitzhak, who was called Itzik, was a lively child. The vigor accompanied him until his last day. He stood out among his friends in his social activities and with his help to others, and was always the first in tasks that involved sacrifice and contribution to others. He attended high school in Herzliya. He particularly liked the carpentry work, learned it from his father, and was talented. Itzik came to the aid of his family in the expansion of the family home, which was originally a home for immigrants from the 1950s. He used tractors for long hours in the day and in remote places. When it was time to build the house, he went to work energetically, and together with his brother and father built a magnificent house. Itzik had a dream of getting out of the army and setting up a family factory – a carpentry shop where his father’s knowledge, his hard work, his energy and his love for this work he had already experienced, would be utilized. He served in the Armored Corps in a regular brigade. During the Peace for Galilee War, Itzik served in the battalion’s mortar division. Itzik took part in fierce battles with his comrades and fell north of the Beirut airport when he was helping the wounded. Itzik got out of his APC to help them, and when he got back to him, he was hit. He fell with the commander and other soldiers engaged in rescuing the victims, on 15 Av (08/04/1982). For this action he received a medal from the commander of the division, and was promoted after his fall. Itzik was a candidate for a command course. His friends respected him and loved him very much. He was never afraid to take risks for them, and accorwhen he died. He was buried at the military cemetery in Herzliya. Yitzhak is survived by his parents, brother and two sisters.
