Ovadia, Eliyahu


Eliahu, son of Shoshana and Meshulam, was born on October 21, 1948, in Petah Tikva, He attended the Gordon Elementary School in Holon and the Military Industrial School in Tel Aviv. Eliahu was a diligent student, diligent and loving order and cleanliness. He completed his studies at the Military Industrial School where he specialized in instrumentation, optics and fine mechanics. He was a good athlete and won the rank of “Outstanding”, after passing examinations on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Elijah, nicknamed Elika by his friends and family, was a cheerful, smiling young man, always in a good mood. At home and in the circle of friends, he had an optimistic atmosphere around him and was a source of pride for parents and a model for brother and sister. He was handsome, energetic and eager to help others. All his life he was very attached to his family and his parents, and at every opportunity, he tried to be with the family. Eliahu was drafted into the IDF in August 1966 and served in the Armored Corps and Armament Corps. He underwent basic training and hard training periods as a combat soldier and spent part of his time in the Ordnance Corps, where he made good use of the knowledge he acquired in the Military Industries school in the fields of mechanics and technique.When he finished his service The battalion commander said: “You were a model soldier, the IDF is proud of soldiers like you who serve in its ranks.” About six months after the liberation, Eliyahu married and established a home in Israel. In April 1972, his eldest son Shachar was born. Elijah worked as a technician and did well in his work. In the Yom Kippur War, Eliahu was a combat soldier in the unit that operated in the northern sector of the Suez Canal.
He was hit and killed on the day of Tu Bishvat (October 11, 1973), while he was assaulting the battalion commander in the pursuit of an Egyptian commando unit near the Luza. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Holon on August 22, 1974. He left behind a wife and two sons, a brother and a sister, and his second son, Eliyahu, was born after his death and bears his name.
