Ostrovsky, Michael (Mickey)
Son of Miriam and Baruch, was born on 24.8.1929 in Haifa to parents who were knowledgeable, and the father was a well-known pediatrician, and while he was sitting on the gymnasium there was a great change in his life. When he completed his studies at the Hebrew High School in Haifa, he went to Mikvah Yisrael to study agriculture, and after a period of mental agitation he decided to join a training nucleus, enlisted in the Palmach and served in the “Haemek” battalion in the “Yiftach” brigade. In the framework of the Palmach he was sent to the Galilee and took part in an operation against Malkia and was wounded in it. During the first truce, the brigade participated in the “Dani” operation and on July 17-18, 1948, towards the beginning of the second truce, the “Haemek” battalion seized Shilat and an outpost in the eastern part of the Korikor ridge to threaten the wing of the Legion The enemy attacked the force in the outpost from both directions with the aid of armored vehicles, and it was forced to retreat.In the severe retreat in an open area under crossfire, many of the fighters and Michael fell among them on the 11th of Tammuz 5708 (1948) 18.7.1948). On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
