Ostrovsky, Dan


Son of Yehudit and Shmuel was born on August 19, 1929 in Berlin, Germany, and in 1933 immigrated to Israel with his parents who settled in the Borochov neighborhood of Givatayim. Dan was a lively young boy who stood firm on his views, without bias. Dan served two years in the Palmach and took part in the youth campaign to re-conquer the city after the British arrested its people. Dan served in the Negev Brigade and participated in many operations against gangs and villages of rioters, ensuring transportation and more. Dan was exemplary to his friends with courage and overcoming the dangers and ravages of the climate and nature, and knew how to instill in them a spirit of heroism and sacrifice. In the spring he was sent from Eshel, to take a scouts’ course. Dan was wounded in the bombing of the Tel Litvinsky camp and was taken to Beilinson hospital and there on the 11th of Iyar, May 20, 1948, he died of his wounds. Dan was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
