Oren, Zvi (“Tzvika”)
Son of Gershon and Batya. He was born on August 8, 1947 in Petah Tikva. He completed his studies at the Neve Oz Elementary School and later moved to the Mevo’ot Yam Naval School, where he studied ship mechanics. He was a cheerful, good-hearted boy, full of energy and joy. He was a member of the “Avshalom” group of children and youth, because of his quiet laughter and his rare modesty, he was loved by all his friends, and when he finished his naval school he specialized in practical work on the ship and worked there for a year and a half. He was a pleasant period in his life, full of studies, sights and experiences, and in November 1965 he was drafted into the IDF and after a short training period he boarded the destroyer Eilat. For twenty months he had served in this destroyer, which for him was a second home, where he had established a good friendship with his teammates. He had done his job well and had progressed to the rank of sergeant. He was an excellent mechanic who invested his best efforts at work. He was an exemplary crewman and he did not abandon the sport, and thanks to him, he won the swimming cup. On October 21, 1967, Eilat was drowned by Egyptian missiles, opposite a Romanian beach in northern Sinai. Since his body was not found in the depths of the sea, a monument was placed in his memory for the missing soldiers at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. After a while he was assigned a gravestone in the military cemetery in Haifa. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
