Orcabi, Chaim

Chaim, son of Shimon and Tzvia Orcabi, was born in 1944 in Berde Asher, Yemen, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1949. He attended a religious state school in Gedera and later moved to the Sha’arei Avraham school in Masmiya, where he graduated from high school. He was drafted into the IDF in February 1962, and after completing his regular service, he went to reserve duty from time to time and at the outbreak of the Six-Day War was called again to serve. In the battle at Al Burj near Qantara in Sinai, an enemy shell hit the truck in which he was traveling – and so he fell. It was the fourth day of the battles, it was 29 Iyar 5727 (8.6.1967). He left a wife and a baby who was not yet a year old. Chaim was buried in the emergency military cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to the eternal military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
