Orbach, Menachem
Son of Miriam and Shlomo, he was born on February 24, 1953 in Tel Aviv. Menachem was born to the joy of the entire family, since he was the first grandson of his father’s parents, and his mother, who was an orphan, was given the opportunity to call her son after her dear father. Menachem’s childhood was spent several years in Mishmar HaYarden, then moved to Herzliya, where he studied at the Bar-Ilan elementary school and then at the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva. Menachem, age 4, found that he did not see with one eye, and despite the efforts and treatments Menahem was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement and was very sociable and loved by all his friends, and he loved sports and a lot of swimming, soccer, basketball. When he was in adolescence, Menachem’s parents separated and this affected him severely because he was torn between them, and when he was at his father’s home he studied at the Polytechnic College of Electronics in Tel Aviv, At the conscription office it became clear to him that he would not be able to serve in the IDF at all, and this only hurt him and made him very miserable, but he was able to become a medic. On the 3rd of Tammuz 5762 (23.6.1982) Corporal Auerbach Menachem fell in Mansoura, Lebanon, and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. In his obituary, the unit commander said: “Auerbach fought heroically in a face-to-face battle with the Syrian commando in the war on the Damascus-Beirut highway. The fall of Menachem is a great loss to its members, the company and the entire battalion.”
