Or, Yosef

Yosef, son of Chaya and Shalom, was born on 23.8.1953 in Kibbutz Mishmar Hanegev and attended elementary school and high school in his kibbutz. Yossi, who was the youngest in his class, completed his studies before the age of 17. He asked to be accepted as a member of the kibbutz and to be sent for a year of service at Kibbutz Ein Zivan. Yossi loved the country and its landscapes. His friends testify that he was “crazy about hiking.”Yossi had a great humorous sense of humor. He liked to tell jokes and funny stories, but at the same time he knew how to be very serious, to weigh things seriously and to take full responsibility for everything he did. He was honest with himself and with others. According to his teacher, he was quick-paced and willful. He wanted to understand the phenomena he encountered, to meet all the demands and challenges, and from a young age he demanded to do everything “like the great ones.” Yossi was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of October 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, and after completing basic training he underwent a course for reconnaissance officers and was assigned to a reconnaissance company of a well-known unit in the Armored Corps. On the eve of the Yom Kippur War of 1973, his reconnaissance company went up to the Golan Heights and fought there during the first three days of the war. On the 13th of Tishrei 5734 (9.10.1973), his APC was hit directly and Yossi was killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Mishmar Hanegev. Survived by his parents and sister.
