Ophoiser, Shimon


Son of-Elza and Shlomo, was born on 11.4.1913 in Nuremberg, Germany, to affluent parents, and from his childhood he absorbed the Jewish atmosphere in his parents’ home and graduated from a high school. He joined the Hechalutz movement and went to agricultural training in the “Machar” kibbutz, married a wife and immigrated to Israel in August 1935. From the day he arrived, he was a member of Kibbutz Ayelet HaShachar. On 03/21/1948, on his way to Safed, Shimon boarded a bus which drove over a mine. Shimon was seriously injured, brought to a hospital and two days later, on the 12th of Adar 2, 5708 (March 23, 1948), died of his wounds and was brought to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Ayelet Hashahar. He left behind a wife, Rivka, and three children.
