Okbi, Yoel


Son of Musa and Naomi. He was born on the 26th of Tishrei 5776 (26.9.1956) in Moshav Tnuvot. He attended the elementary school in the moshav, and despite the difficult economic situation in the home he was one of the best students. Miriam notes: “In the shiurim Yoel showed his quick perception and the depth of his thoughts, more than I learned from my students, especially from Yoel.” The teacher added: “I followed his development, and Yoel did not disappoint, he worked hard to prepare his lessons and memorize them, and his friends liked him and asked his girlfriend.” After graduating from elementary school he studied for two years in high schools. During this period he was a member of the Gadna and took part in various activities with his friends, such as: trips, marches, camps, etc. He was active in soccer and was one of the best players in football. Yoel was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-November 1974 and was assigned to the Signal Corps, where he was trained as an infantry combatant and then trained in more professional fields and was trained as a unit technician. On July 15, 1977, Yoel fell in the line of duty. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Moshav Tnuvot. Survived by his parents. Four brothers and three sisters. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Yoel z” l served as a generator technician and in this field he discovered proficiency, with great ambition and was admired by his comrades and commanders in the unit. Yoel was a quiet and disciplined soldier, but he knew how to entertain his time and time with his friends in the evenings, in song and in mischief. ” (This page is part of the Yizkor memorial project held by the Ministry of Defense)
