Ohnona, Gabriel (Gabi)


Son of Esther and Shlomo, was born on April 30, 1958 in Casablanca, Morocco. When he was 10 years old, he immigrated to Israel with some of his brothers in the framework of Youth Aliyah. He studied at the “Auman” institution in Afula and later in the Bnei Akiva yeshivas in Kfar Haroeh and in Kerem Divana, where he studied at the high school yeshiva in Kfar HaRoeh. When he reached the IDF, he joined the hesder yeshiva to combine military service with Torah studies, and was a disciplined soldier who stood out in the peace and quiet he radiated around him.Gaby won the affection of his friends for his constant willingness to help his friends during difficult times. He served in an armored unit of the Hesder Brigade and took part in battles in Lebanon, and in October 1983 he was called up for reserve duty and was stationed in the Tire area in Lebanon and was about to finish his reserve duty. On 28 November 1983, A car bomb exploded in the military administration in Tire. Among those killed was Gabriel. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Ashdod, leaving behind a father, brothers and sisters, and his family established a memorial fund called “Yad Gavriel” to grant benevolence to the needy
