Ohayon, Charles (Shalom)

Son of Meir and Rachel. He was born on April 6, 1948 in Casablanca, Morocco. He immigrated with his family to Israel in 1956 and studied for four years at the Amal vocational high school in Be’er Sheva. His teachers noted him as an extraordinary boy in his pleasant manner and his quiet humility. It was in the vocational school that he stood out in his studies in the humanities. He loved Bible studies and the history of the Jewish people and loved the Hebrew language even though he specialized in mechanical frameworks, while Charles used to speak quietly and moderately and reassure him about peace and security. Good and open, and the teachers noted his enthusiastic participation in the ICA fundraising campaign, when Charles was in his final year of study, and because of the burden of studies, his classmates were released from the burden of the operation, but Charles did not agree to be released and he said, “We are the adults and who will organize the operation if we continue? Are we out of it? We have to give and not just accept. “And he did know how to give a lot, and he gave himself up, and he was drafted into the IDF in February 1968 and assigned to the Armored Corps. He was a good soldier and fulfilled what was entrusted to him with devotion and loyalty. On April 7, 1970, he was killed while rescuing a tank that was hit by enemy shelling in the Suez Canal area and was brought to rest in the cemetery in Be’er Sheva.
