Ohayon, Abraham

Ohayon, Abraham

Son of Shimon and Massouda. He was born on August 3, 1936 in Mogador, Morocco, and graduated from the “Alliance” elementary school in Casablanca. At the age of 15 Avraham joined the Scouts movement and worked with dedication and diligence. He was joined by all the boys in his neighborhood who were attracted to him and wanted to imitate him. At “Tzofim” he engaged in various sports activities, but spent all his free time investing in Zionist activities. He did so in secret and organized youth groups to immigrate to Israel via France. Avraham joined one of the groups in order to continue his activities in France. He spent three months in various positions in the immigrants’ camp, but this activity did not satisfy him, because he wanted to immigrate to Israel. Although he was devoted and connected to his family and relatives, he took seriously the positions assigned to him by the movement, and whatever he did, succeeded. A large part of his salary, in addition to the money he collected from various synagogues, contributed to the fund and the money was sent to Israel for the purchase of land. His great dream was to immigrate to Israel, to build on it and to protect it, in order to help prepare it for new immigrants. Finally, in March 1949, he immigrated to Israel. Avraham was drafted into the IDF at the end of May 1955, and at the end of September 1957 he joined the career army, on the 26th of Shevat 5770 (26.1.1970), died and was put to rest in the Ramle cemetery.
